Rise and shine

It has taken a lot of practice for me to loosely paint flowers.  It is so easy to get caught up in every individual petal.  I admire the photo realistic artists but I have found that I love to paint more impressionistic I guess.  The simple idea of color, texture, light and shadow presented in an interesting composition is all I need to feel happy.

Tangle of color

What brightens your mood in cold gray January?  Colorful happy flowers..of course.  This is usually the time of year I start craving color, which works out well for my painting too.

Simple solution

8x8 oil on 1" cradled panel

Life can get so complicated and annoying sometimes and it is hard to slow down and turn off.  That happens with painting too.  I can easily get frustrated trying to out-do myself and think too much and too hard about subject matter and composition...which leads me to NOT paint at all.  I find it is important to calm down and make it simple.  And sometimes the best way to calm down is with a glass of wine...cheers!

Red light

5x7 oil on panel

Back to painting...again.  Hopefully I can keep it going for a while.  Seems I can't find my groove with painting on a regular basis.  I am trying, though.  Starting back up with my favorite..wine studies.  I thought I would be a bit rusty, but this one turned out pretty well to my surprise.  Anyway, feeling motivated so far..it felt good to push some paint around again.
