We spent a lot of time at the beach this past summer. The beaches here
on Lake Michigan are just beautiful. This is the path we took to the

Isn't she beautiful. I used to stay away from painting portraits, they
were a bit intimidating for me in the past..but you can get so much
emotion and feeling from a portrait, and I feel a sense of satisfaction
when I paint one.
More red begonias! I have been doing these little 4x4 flower studies lately..they are great practice for color combinations and use of negative space. I am always drawn to interesting bits of negative space..sometimes that is what makes a painting appealing, not the subject itself, but the spaces in between.
Fredrick Meijer gardens and sculpture park is here in Grand Rapids. Not
only is it a beautiful place, but there is a big grassy hill that the
kids love to run up and down. I captured these girls watching their
friend roll down the hill..so much fun.
Brought this cool wine glass home from a wedding..a sustainable, green
wedding..so all the guests got to pick a glass to drink from during the
reception and take it home. Thought this one would be great to paint,
and it was.
These begonias are so fun to paint..and they are still growing well in the back yard too. Well, I will be painting more often from now on..my lovely daughter started school full time today, which means I will have much more time to devote to painting. This is one of the two paintings I completed today..so far so good.
