5x7 oil on paper
I never see the little relationships in my paintings until I post them online.  The purple flowers seem to be whispering to the lily on the right..I can hear the faint voices saying "show off".  The lily on the left can't help that she is beautiful, she grew that way.

Weekend off

No painting to post today.  I took the weekend off to do some work on a group project, watch some rugby and do some research to recharge my creative battery.  Today I took a couple hours for myself and went to the local book store to have a vanilla latte', grab a pile of art magazines and see what is happening in the world of art.  I really need to do this more often...so much to go through and read...so much inspiration and  information to stuff into my little brain.  I have been reading a lot lately about going from part time to full time artist and what it takes to do so successfully.  This is what is ahead of me.  My daughter will be in school full time this fall, which will open up so much time for me.  I am excited and a bit nervous to dive in to full time artist, but it is what I have wanted for a long time.  I have been working at a steady pace since November and it has proven to be a positive thing..good results all around, so it is getting to be time for the next step.  I will continue to document it all and see where this road leads.

Summer bouquet

4.75x7 oil on paper
I love wandering the yard for things to paint..grabbed this little bouquet from my side yard.  Thought I would create a bit more drama with a dark background...really made the yellow pop.

Millie Sue

8x8 oil on cardboard
This is my parent's golden retriever Millie Sue, named after both of my grandmothers.  We have had many dogs in our family throughout the years, but Millie is special in the fact that she has captured my dad's heart like no other.  So, in honor of Father's day I thought I would paint a portrait of Millie for my dad.  Happy Father's day dad!  This is for you.

Boat drinks

6x6 oil on panel
Ahhh, summer always brings out the parrothead in me.  If you are a Jimmy Buffett fan you should know the song "Boat drinks".  I brought these drink umbrellas home from a wedding and they were singing the song to me so I had to paint them.  Makes me look forward to time on the water this summer.

Driving home

5x7 oil on panel
Took this photo driving home from my parents place last summer.  I painted this in my booth space during the artist market here in town..the weather was perfect for outdoor painting, and it gave me something to pass the time besides people watching.  I really enjoyed the change up of subject matter..will have to do more this summer.

Summer morning

5x7 oil on panel
We have been picking strawberries every morning out of our little patch in the back yard.  It is nice to sit in the sun and have some coffee and fruit..great way to start the summer.

6x6 oil on panel
Bedtime at our house always includes a glass of milk, a story and a little friend..makes you feel cozy doesn't it?  I painted this for the stripe challenge on Daily Paintworks.  It is fun to see what other artists think of when they use stripes.  Check out the other entries here.

Wino daisy 7

6x6 oil on panel
With this one I was messing around with opposites red and green.  These colors are hard together, you automatically think of Christmas..I think I successfully used the colors without the holiday coming to mind.

Wino daisy 6

5x7 oil on panel
Oh, the wino series continues.  I finally got smart and planted my own daisies.  It is great to just wander the back yard for subject matter..the wine bottles are always plentiful.  If you are in the Grand Rapids area this Sunday, come down to the Fulton Street Artist market(same place as farmers market).  I will be selling lots of little paintings at great prices.

Boy 2-Ray

6x6 oil on paper
This little guy is Ray, brother to Elise and Maia..so now I have painted all the siblings.  It is so fun painting children in the neighborhood.  It is great to have a  lot of kids around, especially for my daughter Ginger, an only child and very, very social.
