Lovely red

6x6 oil painting on paper
No one can deny the beauty these two create together..sets the mood for love and romance for sure.  I love the way changing the background color can affect the mood of a painting instantly..so fun to play with.  I am quite pleased with these past few rose paintings.  Painting roses used to be a daunting task, but simplifying the brush strokes and focusing on the shapes and contrast works out great.  I have learned a lot from my fellow daily painters.

Red rose

6x6 oil painting on paper
Roses always remind me of my grandmother.  She always grew roses along the path to her back door.  I was thinking of her while painting this one..made me smile.

Love of roses

5x10 oil painting on paper
Usually around this time if year I need some color, so my daughter and I went to the local market to find some flowers.  She kept telling me how much she loves roses, so we brought these beauties home.

18x24 oil on panel
I went larger with Wino25, and had some fun with text too.  It was a bit challenging going from 5x7 size to 18x24, trying to crop the same and keep the brushwork the same, but it seemed to work out.  The lighting when I took the photo was quite bright, so the colors are a bit washed out at the top.

Girl 2

6x6 oil on paper
The second in my girl series.  I really feel like I accomplish something when I finish a portrait..they are so challenging for me and I learn so much in the process of each one.  This is another one of my daughter..I have requested some new subjects, but until then I have this beauty to keep me busy.  I am also working on a larger wino painting which I will post tomorrow.

5x7 oil painting on panel
Another in the wino series.  I messed around with the focus on this one..some areas are more detailed while others are a little fuzzy.  I think this series will continue on and off for a long time..really this is only #24, maybe I will rethink it at #100.

Girl 1

6x6 oil on paper
I have set up a challenge for myself.  Inspired by a couple painters I admire, Carol Marine and Karin Jurick, I have decided to take the plunge into painting faces.  Painting people has always been a challenge for me, so this will be a huge learning experience.  My intent is to focus on girls from 3-12 years old, trying to capture the essence of being a girl.  This first one is of my daughter Ginger..who has also inspired this series.  I still have a lot to learn, but this one was a whole lot of fun to paint.

White on white

5x7 oil on panel
I painted this for a DPW challenge.  White objects on white backgrounds are more difficult than you would think..difficult but good.  It is fun to see how blues, pinks and greys can give you white..simple and complex.

Red apples and wine

5x7 oil on panel
This was a quick study painted loosely..I like the overall effect, and the colors are nice and rich.

In love

5x7 oil on panel
I was going to title this "table for one", but the flower seems to be in love with the bottle with her subtle lean.  "In love" feels like a more appropriate title for this little painting.
